about

Build real things,
out of code.

What bench is

bench is a workbench where a student teaches a machine to notice, wires that noticing to an action, and ships it to real hardware they own — a roughly $15 Wi-Fi device on their desk that actually does something. Blocks on the left; the equivalent CircuitPython on the right, so the code is never hidden. When the blocks can't say it, the student takes the code and keeps going.

Who it is for

Students building computational and AI fluency, and the teachers who run the room. bench is a StandPoints product in the sfhsbta stable, a sibling of spawn.

The two players

Player one is the student — they lead, they decide, they build. Player two is Claude — it names the concept, points at the block, says why a build breaks, and builds what the student decides. The respect is the work.
